Our Mission
The Pandora Consort was formed with the mission of sharing historical music and stories that uplift historically marginalized composers, particularly early female composers. We are committed to crafting performances that push the boundaries of the traditional Classical concert format and provide greater accessibility to new audiences, whether through multimedia, interactive performance, or multi-genre collaboration. In pursuit of creating new works, we are committed to supporting and collaborating with other emerging artists from all mediums and building a collection of materials that support historical music research and scholarship.
ABOUT US
The Pandora Consort is a new early music ensemble led by
young artists Kendra Comstock and Angie Tyler. Both alumni of the Historical Performance Masters program at the Longy School of Music, Angie and Kendra forged a deep connection through their shared love of early music and commitment to creating unique, engaging performances. The ensemble is dedicated to reimagining classical music performance by integrating multimedia, interactive elements, and exploring historically under-represented repertoire. A particular focus of the Pandora Consort is on bringing to light the works of female composers from the early music period.
In the summer of 2022, the Pandora Consort debuted their first program Vox Feminae with SoHIP Boston, showcasing compositions by female Baroque composers. Following their success with Vox Feminae, the Pandora Consort launched the Worlds Collide Series, a groundbreaking initiative that unites emerging musicians from diverse genres across Boston. This series encourages the creation of original genre-blending compositions while raising funds for local charities.
In 2023, the ensemble was honored with a grant from the Anna Sosenko Assist Trust to perform Vox Feminae during the Boston Early Music Festival Fringe Series, and an Encouragement Award from the Mixtape Recital Series to support the development of their new program, The Witching Hour, which was premiered on the SoHIP Boston Summer Series. Later that season, the Pandora Consort performed this program throughout upstate New York as part of the Pegasus Early Music and NYS Baroque Young Artist Series.
Later that same year, the Pandora Consort premiered their third program, Hildegard Reanimated: Vision in Vision, with SoHIP Boston, featuring works of Hildegard von Bingen accompanied by animations of some of her most famous divine visions. The Pandora Consort continues to tour this program, and work to develop new programs and early music resources. The name "Pandora Consort" is inspired by the myth of Pandora's box, symbolizing the ensemble’s mission to explore the unknown and push the boundaries of classical concert presentation.
